What is a neuropsychological assessment?

A neuropsychological assessment is a detailed evaluation of cognitive functioning, including areas such as memory, attention, processing speed, language and executive functioning. It can help understand how a neurological condition, brain injury or other factors may be affecting everyday functioning.

Who can benefit from a neuropsychological assessment?

Neuropsychological assessment may be helpful for individuals experiencing cognitive or psychological difficulties following conditions such as brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, brain tumours and neurodegenerative conditions, as well as other neurological disorders.

What does a neuropsychological assessment involve?

The assessment usually involves a detailed clinical interview followed by selected neuropsychological tests. The assessment is tailored to the individual's needs and may consider medical history, education, language, culture and other relevant factors.

How long does an assessment take?

The length of an assessment can vary depending on the individual's needs, referral question and the complexity of the assessment. This will be discussed before the assessment begins.
